What started as a friendly quickly turned into a brilliant game played for an even bigger cause, as AFC Tima and Mindset Wirral came together to raise awareness for men’s mental health.

Mindset Wirral started the stronger side, controlling the first half with some sharp passing football and racing into a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes. Jack Hughes opened the scoring before Tom Quirk added a second, with Charlie Roberts setting up both goals.

2-0 at the break — but the game was far from over.

Tima came out fired up in the second half and turned the game on its head within 10 minutes. Cayden Fenton grabbed two quick goals to level things up, both brilliantly assisted by Ryan Innes.

With momentum swinging, Mindset Wirral dug deep and found another breakthrough as Charlie Roberts slipped Jack Hughes through for his second of the match to make it 3-2. Then, with just a minute left on the clock, Hughes stepped up from the penalty spot after a handball decision and calmly completed his hat-trick in dramatic fashion.

A brilliant game, plenty of quality on show, and an even better message behind it all.
